Normalised safety signage – Emergency services, fire safety, requirements, prohibitions and warnings

The EN ISO 7010 standard defines a harmonised system of safety pictograms and, consequently, of photoluminescent safety signs designed to ensure immediate and universal understanding of messages relating to prevention, requirements, prohibitions and emergency procedures. These pictograms are used in public buildings, industrial sites, transport infrastructure, workplaces and areas with specific risks.

ISO 7010 pictograms are based on strict colour codes, standardised shapes and standardised graphic symbols, ensuring rapid recognition regardless of language, level of training or cultural context.

The photoluminescent equipment offered by ARCO IRIS ensures that these pictograms remain visible even in total darkness or during a power cut.

Rescue, emergency services, traffic routes (E Series)

Fire-fighting equipment (F Series)

2 - Matériels de lutte contre l'incendie + Obligations

Photoluminescent road signs compliant with standard EN ISO 7010

Signage complying with the EN ISO 7010 standard can be produced in a photoluminescent version to ensure optimum visibility in all situations, including in the event of a power cut or total darkness. In this specific configuration, the standard white background colour is replaced by a photoluminescent material, whilst the colour of the pictogram or sign symbol is strictly retained (green, red, blue, yellow or black depending on the sign category). This design fully complies with regulatory requirements: the contrast, shape and colour code of the message remain unchanged, ensuring immediate and universal recognition of the pictogram. The photoluminescent material stores natural or artificial ambient light and emits it in the dark, without the need for an electrical supply or maintenance. These photoluminescent signs are particularly suitable for escape routes, emergency equipment, high-risk areas and safety installations where visibility must be maintained at all times. They provide a reliable, durable and cost-effective solution, significantly enhancing personal safety whilst remaining strictly compliant with regulatory requirements. The equipment developed by ARCO IRIS is part of this approach, combining ISO standardisation with photoluminescent performance.

Conclusion
EN ISO 7010 pictograms form the universal basis for modern safety signage. When used in conjunction with photoluminescent materials, they ensure constant visibility, even in the most adverse conditions
