Quality and services
Arco Iris designs and markets a comprehensive range of photoluminescent equipment and phosphorescent safety signs designed for safety purposes, all of which are rigorously approved and certified. These solutions are developed to meet current regulatory and standards requirements, whether in buildings open to the public or in industrial, commercial or logistics environments.
Every Arco Iris photoluminescent product comes with a detailed technical data sheet. This document is an essential reference for users, installers and specifiers, as it provides a precise description of the product’s characteristics and the optimal conditions for installation. Installation and usage instructions are clearly set out to ensure performance in line with the specified values.
The technical data sheets specify, in particular, the parameters relating to excitation lighting, which is a key factor in the operation of photoluminescence. They indicate the recommended type of light source, whether natural or artificial, as well as the minimum illuminance level required. The exposure time required to achieve a useful luminance is also specified, ensuring effective operation under real-world conditions, particularly during a power cut or an emergency situation.
This rigorous approach ensures that the end user has complete control over photoluminescent performance, with a focus on reliability, safety and regulatory compliance.
Stress tests
The main photoluminescent products offered by Arco Iris undergo rigorous durability testing, carried out in accordance with recognised protocols. The aim of these tests is to verify the products’ durability and performance over time, including under demanding conditions of use.
The tests focus in particular on flammability, to ensure that the equipment meets the relevant fire safety requirements. Weather resistance is also assessed, which includes prolonged exposure to humidity, temperature fluctuations and outdoor weather conditions.
The products are also subjected to water and salt spray resistance tests, which are particularly important for installations in damp or industrial environments. Cleaning tests are carried out to ensure that routine maintenance does not affect either legibility or photoluminescent performance. Abrasion and adhesion tests are also carried out, ensuring good mechanical strength and durability of the substrates and fixings.
Finally, resistance to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is tested to ensure that the products retain their photoluminescent properties despite prolonged exposure to light. Test reports can be provided on request, confirming the rigour of the tests carried out.
Harmfulness and toxicity
Health and safety is an integral part of Arco Iris’s commitments. The photoluminescent products we offer are non-radioactive and contain no phosphor. They are also formulated without heavy metals, making them compliant with current environmental and health standards.
These features ensure that the products can be used safely, both during installation and throughout their entire service life. They also enable Arco Iris equipment to be installed in sensitive locations such as public buildings, schools, hospitals or industrial sites subject to strict regulations.
Certificates of analysis confirming the absence of hazardous substances can be provided on request. These documents serve as further proof of the products’ compliance and facilitate their inclusion in projects subject to stringent specifications.
Bespoke manufacturing
To meet the specific requirements of certain projects, Arco Iris offers a bespoke manufacturing service. This production service enables the creation, to order, of customised products tailored to specific technical or architectural constraints.
Arco Iris is able to produce bespoke cut-outs, customised prints or photoluminescent fittings designed entirely to order. These can be produced either based on a design provided by the client or on the basis of a graphic proposal developed by Arco Iris’s design department.
The fixtures are manufactured quickly, with a wide range of materials available depending on the intended application. The luminance level is also selected according to the project’s requirements, with classes ranging from B to G+. This flexibility allows the photoluminescent performance to be precisely tailored to regulatory requirements and the site’s operating conditions.
Excitation lighting plays a vital role in the operation of photoluminescent equipment, as the luminance emitted depends directly on the type, intensity and duration of exposure to light. Before use, photoluminescent devices must be properly ‘charged’ using suitable excitation lighting for phosphorescent equipment to ensure they remain visible in the dark or during a power cut.
The equipment must be installed in the immediate vicinity of the light sources and must never be placed in a shaded area. The illuminance must not be less than 25 lux. Continuous exposure is recommended; if this is not possible, the lighting must be applied for at least 15 minutes per hour, with no interruption lasting longer than 45 minutes.
The choice of light source is crucial: cool-light sources, ranging from 3000 to 6500 K (LEDs, metal halides, fluorescents), provide optimal recharging. Illuminance levels are based in particular on the recommendations of standard NF EN 12464-1, relating to the lighting of indoor workplaces.
