M1 Stardust intumescent varnish is a high-performance, transparent 2K polyurethane varnish specially developed for applications requiring protection against fire risk.
Intended for use in the construction and fit-out sectors, as well as in local authority buildings and public access facilities, it combines an excellent finish with an official fire reaction classification.
Unlike a conventional decorative varnish, this coating contributes to the system’s behaviour when exposed to flames. In the event of a fire, it limits the substrate’s contribution to combustion and reduces the rate at which flames spread. This property is an essential factor in projects subject to regulatory requirements or specifications mandating a fire rating.
The product complies with standard NF P 92-507 and has an M1 classification, corresponding to a combustible but non-flammable material under the conditions defined by laboratory tests. This classification is obtained through a specific testing procedure and remains valid provided that the application conditions, the substrate and the film thicknesses comply with the test report.

Its two-component polyurethane formulation also delivers the performance expected of a professional-grade topcoat. Once cured, the resulting film is completely transparent, glossy, hard and resistant to everyday wear and tear. It effectively protects the surface against wear, minor scratches and everyday damage, whilst preserving the aesthetic appearance of the substrate.
The varnish is easy to apply by spray gun or roller, depending on the nature of the job. Its coverage generally ranges from 6 to 10 m² per litre, depending on the porosity of the substrate and the thickness of the applied coat. One or two coats are usually sufficient to achieve the desired result, with a dry film thickness of between 25 and 50 microns. The mixture is prepared using a ratio of 100 parts varnish to 33 parts hardener by weight.

This varnish is primarily intended for properly prepared substrates offering good adhesion: sanded paintwork, wood, resins, primed materials or compatible mineral substrates.
As with any technical coating, a preliminary test is recommended where the material has specific characteristics or where it is used in industrial production.
Reaction to fire versus fire resistance *
It is important to distinguish between reaction to fire and fire resistance. The M1 classification relates solely to the material’s behaviour at the onset of a fire: flammability, flame spread and contribution to fire development. It is not a fire resistance classification such as EI30, EI60 or EI120, which relate to a building element’s ability to retain its mechanical properties during a fire.
Thanks to its balance between fire protection, finish quality and ease of application, this varnish is a solution particularly well-suited to professionals wishing to preserve the aesthetic appearance of their projects whilst meeting the fire safety requirements imposed in many sectors of activity.
